Architectural Issues of Web-Enabled Electronic Business
Published in Unknown Binding by Idea Group Publishing (June, 2003)
Average review score:

Review by David BennettAs Internet availability continues to grow and access is obtained at much faster speeds, e-business is becoming the norm rather than a novelty. This book is therefore timely as it recognizes the importance of web architecture in delivering services and information more efficiently through the electronic media." - Dr. David Bennett, Professor of Technology Management, Aston University, UK
Both reference and text bookThe book Architectural Issues of Web-Enabled Electronic Business is a rare find, a book that is useful both as a reference and as a textbook for advanced undergraduate and graduate students. The editors have assembled a strong team of expert authors to provide the reader with a full and colorful review of e-business, in its current state and in its potential. The book is highly readable, something rare for a technical book. This is quite an accomplishment, worthy of praise.

Absolute Beginner's Guide to eBay
Published in Paperback by Que (03 February, 2003)
Average review score:

Learn how to satisfy your urge to bargainThe fact that ...e-Bay, one of the few other successful e-businesses does as well. ...e-Bay satisfies the fundamental human desire to bargain and make money. It is ironic to think that although the Internet was considered to be the ultimate in niche market opportunities, it has been those two general human characteristics that have driven the most successful e-businesses.
If you have been feeling the desire to gratify your urge to buy and sell, but have been hesitant to do so out of ignorance, then this book is for you. In plain, clear, extremely non-technical language, Miller explains what e-Bay is, how to get started and if all goes well, how to ramp up to being a major player. The only prerequisite is a fundamental knowledge of the world wide web and how to surf from site to site. This includes the basics of filling out and submitting forms.
Miller is also honest about some of the optional features offered by e-Bay. Additional options such as extra and longer listings are quite properly considered a waste of money. He is also blunt in stating that about 50% of all the items listed on e-Bay are not sold. This is very sound advice, as it is easy to get caught up in sales and by not understanding the value of the features, end up selling your items at a loss.
e-Bay as an organization is right in considering the e-Bay service to be a community, the largest and most varied shopping bazaar in the world. Everyone with a desire to do so can join, and this book will show you how.

Architects of the Business Revolution: The Ultimate E-Business Book
Published in Paperback by Capstone Pub (15 January, 2000)
Average review score:

Insightful!Authors Des Dearlove and Stephen Coomber present capsule biographies of 50 individuals who have played a major role in the spread of e-business. Besides providing some background on each person, these bios highlight their major contributions as individuals or through their companies. While many names and stories are familiar - Jeff Bezos, Larry Ellison, Bill Gates - others are less so, such as the developers of Google and Real Networks. The bios mix high-tech contributors, entrepreneurs and journalists covering the e-business revolution. Though the book has a brief introduction, it suffers from its alphabetical listing of the contributors, which presents the bios out of context. We at getAbstract.com say this book "coulda been a contender" if it grouped its bios in chronological order or by field, and offered introductions to local sections of that nature. Still, it's a useful encyclopedia of the selected individuals and a valuable e-resource.

BaanERP Business Solutions: Foundations for E-Commerce: Your Guide to Success in the Changing World of Information Technology
Published in Paperback by Premier Press, Inc. (26 October, 2000)
Average review score:

Must read for any Baan library.I have had the pleasure of assisting the implementations of Baan products at several companies in he United States. My background with Baan starts with a very old version 2.0. startup at a Mining and Manufacturing company, to a recent ERP install. All the versions in between. This user manual takes a solid walk through the basics, through tools, and implementation guidance. I recommend this Baan bible for anyone having responsibility to install, parallel, and migrate to ERP Solutions in their business.

Bargain Hunting in the Bay Area
Published in Paperback by Wingbow Press (August, 1978)
Average review score:

good resourceWhile I haven't used this book to shop until I drop, I have used it when I want to shop for something specific. It is organized by type of items sold but also has an index in the back that allows you to see what stores are in a certain location (by city). I like the latter because I found there was a store I used to go to elsewhere (out of my way) right around the corner from my office. I also use it to find other stores that are near a place I am already headed for.

Building a Birchbark Canoe: The Algonquin Wabanaki Tciman
Published in Paperback by Firefly Books (March, 2002)
Average review score:

The discoveryThis book has been a discovery. Gidmark, indeed, made me discover the passion of birchbark canoe building. He also made me discover the great canoe builders who live in my own country! This book helped me to build on my own my first birchbark canoe. The review of different builders, craftmen and the numerous photos helped me to understand, step by step, all the building process.
For all future birchbark canoe builders, this is the basic book to buy!
